With a small group of friends, I hiked up to Kamniško Sedlo for some great views of the rugged Julian Alps. We spent some time lounging around in the warm sunshine and enjoying some traditional food at the lodge, but before we could retreat the few hours back to our waiting cars, an afternoon storm blew in and poured heavy, cold rain all around us.

This might not have been a problem, except that between us we only had a few euros to spend for food and lodging for the unexpected night out in the hills. The extremely generous hosts at the lodge offered us complimentary beds and breakfast so we wouldn’t risk hiking out in these cold conditions with inadequate gear.

We hiked out the next morning in much drier conditions, feeling well rested and with full bellies.
