Okay, I’m honestly not just sitting at the computer here, but there is cheap internet at my hostel (hostal Haina), so I thought I would tell a funny story.
There is this older mexican guy staying in my room at the hostel, and when I went in there, he asked me “¿hablas español?” (do you speak spanish), to which I replied “muy poquito”, (very little). Then, he totally went into a full blown conversation – quite one sided – for about 15 minutes! I kept saying “si” and he kept talking. Several times, I said “no comprendo” (I don’t understand) and “hablas mas despacio, por favor” (speak more slowly please), but to no avail, he just kept going! I think he thought I could understand him! I did get that he is an architect, and lives in VeraCruz. He is working here on some projects that withstood serious damage in the hurricane season a couple years ago… or something! His name is Tomas. 🙂
