The Giant’s Causeway was formed after the cooling of an ancient volcanic eruption. The result of the contraction of the lava as it cooled is over 40,000 of these (mostly) hexagonal basalt columns standing in a cluster at the edge of the sea.
The Giant’s Causeway is protected and is recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site.
