Hello All!
My time in San Pedro has been really great!
First of all, I’m really happy with how my spanish is progressing. I have increased my lessons to 6 hours a day – three in the morning with one instructor, and three more in the afternoon with another instructor. I can understand a lot of the simple conversations that people have here, although sometimes it’s a little fast. I can speak in present tense with simple words, and need to learn more verbs and to conjugate verbs into different tenses.
Things here are cheap! This guy was selling a Djembe (drum) that he hand made out of a solid block of cedar, and with a real goatskin drum head (the thing you hit, not a goat head!) for $40. I bargained pretty hard, and since I didn’t want to carry it around, I wasn’t even sure I wanted it. BUT, by the time the price was down to $12 (yeah, a hand carved djembe for $12!) I couldn’t resist! So now I have this Djembe to carry around! It costs about $40 to send it home! Ha ha! I wish I would have known that first!
I learned to bead here! These mayan ladies taught me, and I made a really cool bracelet all for $4. I totally learned how to do it, and have bought a rainbow selection of beads and a block of wood and a couple of needles and thread, so I’m totally hooked up for beading. I have a great idea for a cool bracelet, all I need is an hour of Photoshop time, and I’ll have a pattern to follow. FUN! A friend of mine, Ashley, learned to weave from these same women, and she’s making a beautiful scarf for herself.
There are fireflies here and it’s super fun to see them flying around at night with their bums glowing! How cool is that?!
That’s it for now. Talk to you later!
