Mount Fitz Roy is in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field in Patagonia, on Argentina/Chile border.

These mountains and the surrounding ice field make their own weather system so it’s often difficult to catch them on a clear day. When I started hiking in the morning the forecast looked really promising, but before I arrived at the viewpoint the clouds had closed in. However, I managed to see the forlorn walls of Fitz Roy poking out from a thin spot in the clouds and managed to snap a few photos before it closed up again. The following day, as luck would have it, was crystal clear and I had terrific views from the bus as I was heading South from El Calafate.
