Okay, Hurricane Dean is on it’s way.
I have purchased some hurricane food which consists of:
2 giant Snickers bars
6 peanut butter granola bars
4 big bottles of Gatorade
2 big cans of Fruit Cocktail
6 litres of fresh water.
There is also lots of fresh water at the dive centre, so I don’t think that will be a problem.
I am toughing this out at approximately 50cm above sea level, and about 100m inland of the coast. Pretty sheltered compared to those right on the coast.
People have started boarding up windows, and wrapping their homes with giant tarps and ropes to keep things together. Some are moving inland more and up onto Pumpkin hill where there is more security against rising water levels because of big waves.
I was hoping for more of a direct hit, but who knows, after tonight when the big winds are predicted, I might be glad it’s not a direct hit. I feel for those who are in Jamaica, Belize, and Mexico who have had things destroyed, or will have, because of this hurricane, but I’m glad I’m here for the experience. There’s still more time in the hurricane season for a direct hit!
We had a Hurricane BBQ tonight, and despite our BBQ being blown over and having to restart with new coals, things went well. The wind receeded for us to enjoy some great Chicken and Rice and Porkchops. I have a full belly, now bring on the storm!
I’ll update you as things progress!
Cheers, Russ 🙂
